  • Award-winning housebuilder commits more than £10million to local projects in financial year

Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has committed more than £10million to support local projects throughout the 2016/17 financial year, highlighting the leading housebuilder’s commitment to investing in the local communities in which it builds.

The funding, which is part of planning agreements with the region’s local authorities, has been spread across a variety of services such as public open spaces, school and educational facilities, and public transport measures as well as many other projects.

The contributions come as a result of a number of new home developments across the Yorkshire region, including Belle Vue in Doncaster, where Barratt Homes is contributing more than £1.8million to a range of local projects including transport improvements, affordable housing and education.

The Chocolate Works in York is committing over £1.5million to projects including outdoor sport, sustainable transport and education, while Castlegate in Northallerton, is making contributions of £1.55million, which is going towards improving local roads and public spaces.

Paul Newman, Managing Director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire East division, commented: “We believe it is crucial to support the communities in which we build, and we’re committed to giving back and making a difference in the local area. Not only do we want to build new homes, we want to invest in creating a thriving community for people to live in.

“We hope that the £10million we have committed will help support the region; improving the lives of people living here already is as vital to us as creating new homes for people to enjoy. The contributions will include over £3m on education, and more than £1.5m towards recreational facilities and activities for local communities as well as our residents. We look forward to continuing supporting the areas in which we build homes and watching them flourish.”
