  • Bradford Garden Centre Wins Hat Trick of Horticultural Business Awards

The team at a Bradford Garden Centre are celebrating after winning all three of the awards that it was shortlisted for in a national horticulture industry competition.

Tong Garden Centre won the Garden Centre outlet of the year (large/destination), the High Growth Business of the Year and the Service Excellence Categories of the inaugural Horticulture Week Business Awards 2018.

Finance Director, Charlie Barker and Accounts and Office Manager, Katie Young were among the hundreds of industry professionals who attended a reception at London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square last week and were proud to be presented with the awards. Of the experience, Barker said: “We were over the moon to win the first award, but astounded and delighted to be called up to collect a further two!

“These awards recognise both the considerable investment that has been made since acquisition in 2015 and the incredible effort that the team at Tong put in to making sure that every visit to the Centre is a memorable experience for our customers.”

The awards scheme is designed to honour the achievements of those businesses that make UK horticulture the vital and vibrant industry it is today and ensures that those achievements are recognised by the industry’s customers, clients and stakeholders. The awards were hosted by cleric, broadcaster and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Reverend Richard Coles.

In Tong’s case, the Garden Centre outlet of the year award was won for excellence in garden centre retailing; the High Growth award rewarded exceptional achievement in terms of operating profit growth over the past three years and the Service Excellence award recognised how Tong’s customer service goes above and beyond the competition.

Since 2015, Tong Garden Centre has undergone considerable change to reposition itself as a destination outlet for all the family, including an outdoor play attraction, Grass Hoppers; a Food Hall and a 400 seater restaurant. It occupies a 14 acre site in Tong village and is one of Yorkshire’s biggest garden centres with 110,000 square feet of retail space and parking for up to 700 cars.
