  • Bradford roofer named top roofing apprentice

Incommunities roofer Matthew Ford has won a top national apprenticeship award following a tough two-day competition.

Matthew was competing against 20 of the country’s best roofing apprentices at the BMI Academy UK and Ireland Awards, held in Gloucestershire.

The Leeds College of Building student was presented with the pitched roof category award after impressing the judges with his skill levels and knowledge.

Success in the competition marks the winners for a brighter future in the construction sector.

Tony Thompson, Incommunities Construction Skills Training Manager who leads the group’s apprenticeship programme, said: “We are all very proud of Matthew’s achievement in winning this prize.

“Matthew was up against some of the best young roofers across the UK in this industry challenge and his success can only benefit his career ambitions.

“His success is also a fabulous boost for our award winning apprenticeship programme and our learning partners, Leeds College of Building.”

As well as developing his roofing skills working at Incommunities, Matthew has volunteered some of his spare time joining other trades people in the Band of Builders group working on the homes of needy families around the country.
