Children’s Heart Surgery Fund thanks business supporters as new Theatre Suite Opens
Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) have thanked local business support as the brand new Children’s MRI and Cardiac Hybrid Suite at Leeds Children’s Hospital has been officially opened by HRH The Countess of Wessex.
Funded by CHSF and Leeds Cares, the new development has created a dedicated environment at the hospital for paediatric cardiac surgery and paediatric neurosurgery, supporting the internationally recognised work of these expert teams.
The new theatre complex will improve the care provided to young patients with complex congenital heart disease, and those undergoing neurosurgery.
Sharon Milner, CEO at CHSF said:
“A huge thank you to our supporters for helping to fund the equipment in this Hybrid Suite. Local businesses played a substantial part in our fundraising campaign.”
“The generosity of those who contributed to the £500,000 Keeping the Beat target means poorly babies and children will benefit from this revolutionary facility for generations to come.”
The cardiac hybrid theatre allows cardiac surgeons and cardiologists to perform surgery at the same time which means the skills of both specialists can be employed together, reducing treatment time for patients.
CHSF supports the 450 babies, children and adults from our region requiring open heart surgery every year, plus more than 17,500 people of all ages with congenital heart disease who annually visit the hospital as outpatients.
