  • Housebuilder announces St Leonard’s Hospice in York as Charity of the Year for 2018

Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has announced it will be supporting York-based charity St Leonard’s Hospice throughout 2018.

    • Barratt Developments Yorkshire East employees will take part in fundraising initiatives across the region to help raise vital funds for the charity throughout the year
    • St. Leonard’s Hospice is an independent charity that provides much needed, specialist palliative care and support for local people with life-limiting illnesses
    • The organisation relies on donations to help deliver its care free of charge
    • It costs in excess of £5million a year, or £574 for every hour of every day, with the majority of funding coming from donations and fundraising by the local community
    • By maintaining and improving the quality of life of those within the local area, St Leonard’s Hospice is able to offer support during the course of illnesses for patients as well as their family and friends
    • Last year, the five-star housebuilder, which currently boasts a range of developments across the region including Castlegate in Northallerton, Tranby Fields in Hessle and The Pastures in Knaresborough, raised over £28,000 for its 2017 chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society
    • Barratt Developments has already kicked off the year by taking part in the Accumulator Challenge, an activity in which employees are given £30 to raise as much money as possible within 30 days, and will continue to raise money through a variety of activities including bake sales and charity fun days

Annie Keogh, Corporate Fundraiser at St Leonard’s Hospice, commented:

“We’re delighted that Barratt Developments have chosen the Hospice as their charity of the year. They’ve done some brilliant fundraising so far and we’re really grateful for the support. Funds raised will really make a difference and enable us to continue caring for local people who need us.”

Andrew Taylor, Finance Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, commented:

“St Leonard’s Hospice makes a huge difference to many people and their families across our region, and we are proud to support such a worthy cause. Our employees are brilliant at taking part in charity activities and we are looking forward to all of the fundraising events planned throughout the year to help support such a wonderful local organisation.”
