Housing group sign up five new apprentices

Five young people have started on the road to exciting careers as construction trainees with Incommunities.

The new starters, aged 18 to 25 years old, continue the housing group’s strong track record of investing in talented individuals from across communities.

The recruits include three apprentice electricians, Dominic Maloney, Danny Holroyd and Jordan Stephenson and two training in gas plumbing, Thomas Forde and Jonathan Cumberworth.

Each apprentice will be mentored by experienced trade professionals from the organisation’s Buildingservice team. One day a week they will attend college working towards NVQ qualifications in their particular trade area.

Twenty-four year old Danny Holroyd, a Shipley tenant with Incommunities, moves from the group’s Estate Services where he worked as a cleaner. He was inspired to apply to become an apprentice after attending a free construction taster course run by Incommunities two years ago.

Danny said: “I’ve been interested in training to become an electrician and doing the taster course gave me the confidence to go for this apprenticeship.”

School leaver Thomas Forde from Riddlesden applied to the programme whilst finishing his A-levels. He said: “I was looking for a hands-on profession where I could earn and learn a skill at the same time. I see this as an opportunity to build an exciting career.”

Jordan Stephenson (24) of Keighley previously worked as a stonemason and said: “I want to work for an organisation that is committed to training me and Incommunities looks like a great company to work for.”

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to welcome our latest group of new apprentices.

“Apprenticeships are at the heart of our business and each year the recruitment process gets tougher as we look to bring in more talented young people. These recruits will benefit from some of the best vocational training available anywhere.”

“I wish our five new starters all the best as they take their first steps towards exciting new careers.”
