JWP Creers donate to York Baby Care Unit
THE latest welcome delivery at the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at York Hospital was a £3,749 cheque raised by staff at North Yorkshire accountants and business advisers JWP Creers.
Staff at JWPCreers, who adopted the SCBU for the firm’s 2017 charity, raised £1,500 with a series of events. The firm’s five partners doubled the total with a lump sum donation.
A further £749 was raised by JWPCreers staff who took part in York 10k run in August, beating their target total of £500.
The cheque was presented by members of JWPCreers charity committee, practice manager, Charlotte Granger; tax specialist, Laura Train and senior administrator, Rebecca Szewczuk.
Home-grown fundraising events included a version of BBC TV’s popular Bake Off programme where staff baked an item featured on the show, chose a winner and everyone who ate a slice made a donation; an Office Snack Box where items sold contributed to charity funds; dress down Wednesdays and a Weekly Bonus Ball, the firm’s own version of the National Lottery.
Charlotte Granger says: “Our staff were asked to suggest local charities that we could adopt for 2017, and, after a vote, the SCBU was chosen, partly because the friend of one of our partners received vital assistance there when her baby was born.
“We had lots of fun fund-raising and it was a pleasure to visit the SCBU, which carries out such crucial work for local families and their babies, to present the cheque.”
The SCBU offers two intensive care cots and 13 special care cots and admits around 375 babies a year. The unit offers conventional ventilation, parenteral nutrition and head ultrasound service as well as standard care as part of the Yorkshire Neonatal network and has strong links with similar units in Leeds, Sheffield and Middlesbrough.
Clare Stones, treasurer of the SCBU support group, a small charity run by staff and parent volunteers, says: “Having a firm like JWP Creers doing corporate fundraising makes such a huge difference to us. It means we are able to buy the best, updated equipment for our unit and provide top training for the staff enabling the best care possible for vulnerable, sick and premature babies.
“Having needed to use York SCBU myself, I know first hand how valuable all the fundraising for our charity is. We would like to say a very big thank you to all at JWP Creers for their efforts raising the money for York Special Care Baby Unit Support Group. It is very much appreciated.”
JWPCreers, based at Park Street, Selby and York Science Park, York, is among York and North Yorkshire’s largest firms of accountants, taxation professionals and business advisers with five partners and more than 60 staff.
