  • Law firm supports Leeds Manufacturing Festival

Law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) is supporting this year’s Leeds Manufacturing Festival (October 2019) which aims to provide young people, career advisers, teachers and parents a better understanding of what modern manufacturing is all about.

The festival is being organised by the Leeds Manufacturing Alliance and supported by West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and looks to bring greater awareness of the depth of career opportunities that exists within manufacturing in the  region.

WBD’s support of the festival follows their earlier publication  of a report in collaboration with the manufacturers’ organisation Make UK (previously EEF), which highlighted the general public’s perception of the importance of manufacturing and how it is a key component to the future success of the UK economy.

The report indicated how 70% of the general public agree that the UK cannot tackle future problems without a strong manufacturing sector. When further probed, 69% believe that manufacturing is important to secure the UK’s  place in the global economy, while 61% feel that a strong manufacturing sector is important to secure employment for future generations.

Vicky McCombe, Managing Associate in Construction and Engineering, commented: “Whilst it is clear that the public perception is that manufacturing provides enormous value to the UK economy it is also clear from talking to our manufacturing clients that the challenge with the ‘Skills gap’ continues to be one of the key issues facing the sector as is the need to encourage more girl school leavers into ‘STEM’ careers so we are delighted to be supporting the Leeds Manufacturing Festival which is clearly looking to help address both of these issues.

WBD has spent decades providing support and assistance to businesses in the UK and the US, operating across a wide range of manufacturing sub-sectors on legal and regulatory matters affecting their domestic and international operations. The team comprises specialist lawyers who have a wealth of expertise in the manufacturing sector.
