  • Schofield Sweeney advises WasteCare Group on their acquisition of Augean’s High Temperature Incinerator

The WasteCare Group have announced the acquisition of the East Kent High Temperature Incinerator from Augean PLC. This follows a path of acquisition and organic business growth that is focused on the group collecting and recycling hazardous and difficult wastes on behalf of over 35,000 organisations throughout the UK.

Partner Chris Blantern, with assistance from Solicitor Helen Matthews, advised the WasteCare management on the acquisition (deal size undisclosed).

“WasteCare Group is a long-standing client of the firm and I was delighted to be closely involved in the next stage of their expansion. We have previously advised them on high profile acquisitions including Veolia’s physico-chemical treatment facility in Liverpool, Greif Inc’s thermal treatment operation in Avonmouth and the Leeds-based BatteryBack compliance business” said Chris Blantern, Partner, Schofield Sweeney

Commenting on the acquisition WasteCare Groups Chairman, Peter Hunt, said “previously, as a customer, we were very impressed with the team and the high standards that we witnessed on site. We plan to build upon this to deliver additional treatment capacity and additional services over the coming months. Our growth and success have been as a result of putting our clients at the centre of our operation combined with continuous investment in innovation and we see this as the final piece of the jigsaw, to provide our customers a certified zero to landfill undertaking.”

High Temperature Incineration (HTI) is the vanguard technology for the secure disposal of difficult wastes which require total destruction.  Certain wastes from the pharmaceutical, chemical, research, border control and medical sectors must be managed to ensure that they are completely destroyed and have no potential to be released to the wider environment.

The East Kent facility is one of only three hazardous waste HTI’s in the UK.

The WasteCare Group now have over 500 staff operating across 17 facilities in the UK, they collect and recycle over 60,000 tonnes of hazardous and difficult waste annually and utilising their national collection infrastructure they undertake over 1,000 waste collections per day.
