Thorite and the Bradford Means Business Awards

In 1850, when Thomas Wright founded his company with the aim of providing products and services to the local textile industries, he did so in Bradford. To this day, Thorite is still in family ownership and is still based in Bradford which is why it seems only appropriate that Thorite should be sponsoring the Manufacturer of the Year category at this year’s Bradford Means Business Awards.

While the Bradford Means Business Awards are in their ninth year, this is the first time that Thorite has chosen to sponsor a category. “The Manufacturer of the Year is the ideal category for us to sponsor.” Says Managing Director, Stephen Wright. “As the UK’s largest supplier of compressed air products and systems, there will not be very many manufacturers in the Bradford area who have not used us. Our history in this area is very important to us; Bradford is a vibrant and innovative City and our involvement in these awards is important to us.”

Thorite has significant involvement with the local business community. Stephen Wright was President of the Bradford Chamber of Commerce from 2011 to 2013 and served as Chairman of the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce from 2015 to 2017, he still sits on the chamber’s board. He was Chair of the Steering Group of the Bradford & Airedale Manufacturing Alliance from 2011 until January 2019 and was Chairman of the Yorkshire and Humberside EEF Regional Advisory Board from 2012 to 2017. Stephen was recently elected to the main board of the British Compressed Air Society.

To be awarded Manufacturer of the Year, companies will need to show that they have upheld the manufacturing traditions of the local area, while continuing to strengthen the regional economy. All finalists will demonstrate a dedication to manufacturing excellence with emphasis placed on quality, sales performance, sustainability and investment, with a positive impact on its employees and/or the community.
