Exciting season ahead for Leeds Philharmonic Chorus

As one of the North’s leading choral societies, the Chorus currently has around 125 singers.

Music, and especially singing, is very good for people – as recently featured in the BBC post https://www.bbc.com/ideas/videos/what-happens-inside-us-when-we-sing/p071g6gs?playlist=how-it-feels-to-be-human

We will reach our 150th Anniversary Season in 2020/21 and are seeking more members in all voice parts to help us celebrate in style, as well as hoping to attract new audience members! Our concerts regularly form part of the acclaimed Leeds International Concert Season.

Next season we have a wide and varied programme; it includes performances of Elgar’s The Kingdom in both Leeds Town Hall and Ely Cathedral in November, the Lord Mayor’s Carol Concerts in Leeds Town Hall, a February concert with the Airedale Symphony Orchestra in Leeds Town Hall featuring a concert version of Porgy and Bess, a joint performance in Leeds Town Hall with Leeds Festival Chorus of Beethoven’s Mass in C in May and a summer concert in the Priory Church at Bolton Abbey in June.

Rehearsals for our first concert of the 2019/20 season begin on Thursday 5th September and prospective members are encouraged to just come along to St George’s Church in Leeds. We also have a special session focussing on vocal techniques and sight reading on Thursday 19th September, when prospective members are invited to join us. Any prospective member can attend up to four rehearsals before auditioning to join the Chorus.

Ideally we’re looking for people over 18 with some experience of singing who would enjoy performing with well-known musicians in the UK and abroad. We offer a reduced subscription for new members, students and people on a low income. More information can be found on our website, www.leedsphil.com/join or by telephoning Jill Foalks, Membership Manager, on 01274 607832.

Tickets for all our concerts in Leeds Town Hall are available from the Box Office, 0113 376 0318. If you would like to receive details of our 2019/20 Season please email marketing@leedsphil.com
