First Employee Guide
This month sees specialist employment law firm, Torque Law, launch their free Guide to ‘Taking on your first employees’. Aimed at fledgling businesses looking to take on their first members of staff, the comprehensive and easy-to-follow downloadable Guide, sets out each process step that business owners need to take when it comes to employing staff.
When establishing the firm in 2016, Partners, Tiggy Clifford and Emma Whiting, were keen to break the mould and tailor their services to Yorkshire SMEs and owner-managed businesses, for whom navigating the UK’s many employment laws could be an expensive minefield.
The idea for the Guide came from speaking with several new business owners perplexed by the lack of online resources for would-be employers, and a strong desire by the Torque team to plug that gap and provide peace of mind. Now in its final form, the comprehensive 24-page Guide, outlines the basic legal requirements and necessary arrangements that need to be in place when taking this, often, daunting step. Tiggy Clifford states “we frequently get approached by fast-growing clients wanting to take the plunge to recruit more staff, but they’re nervous about doing so because of the potential pitfalls. In many cases, that nervousness has a stifling effect on the business’ growth and success. This initiative is aimed at demystifying what needs to be done, when and in what order, and ensuring that the employment relationship gets off on the right foot.”
The Guide includes pointers extending beyond recruitment and is an essential reference tool for the entire employment relationship, as well as signposting other recommended professionals and organisations who can provide non-legal support and assistance along the way. Emma Whiting comments “there will be situations that crop up in any business when expert employment advice is necessary and, naturally, that’s where we come in, but we are proud to offer our clients more than just reactionary legal advice; this Guide will provide new employers with a leg-up and a means to help them to achieve their growth ambitions”.
This is just one of the examples of Torque Law’s efforts to put their clients first. Earlier this year, they also published their Client Pledge, the firm’s commitment to service excellence, and established their Client Club for key employer clients. Both initiatives were praised when, earlier this year, Torque Law was awarded Niche Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious Yorkshire Legal Awards.
