John Lewis & Partners named iTravel Savvy Bus Challenge champions
Employees of John Lewis & Partners at Vangarde, York have been presented with an award and a gift hamper in recognition of their efforts to ditch their cars in favour of taking the bus to work.
The department store was one of three major employers across the city to take part in a Bus Challenge as part of a month-long iTravel Savvy campaign organised by City of York Council’s iTravel team during March.
The three businesses were asked to encourage their employees to travel to work by bus, rather than in their cars, and keep a tally of their bus commutes for the full month. At the end of March, their tally sheets were submitted to the iTravel team for analysis and it was found that the organisation with the highest proportion of its employees travelling to work by bus was John Lewis & Partners.
Councillor Andy D’Agorne, City of York Council’s Executive Member for Transport and Planning, said: “It’s really pleasing to see the city’s major employers working with the iTravel team to promote sustainable travel options to their employees. I’d like to congratulate everyone involved, but particularly the winning team from John Lewis & Partners.”
Councillor Keith Aspden, Leader of City of York Council, said: “The iTravel Savvy campaign reflects the council’s commitment to promoting sustainable forms of transport to reduce congestion and improve air quality. It’s wonderful to see businesses in the city setting a positive example to others on this important issue.”
