Leeds start-ups win £24,000 of prize funds at Entrepreneuring Awards

Leeds start-ups were awarded a total of £24,000 last night at the bi-annual Entrepreneuring Awards hosted by Entrepreneurial Spark Powered by NatWest, the world’s largest free business accelerator for early stage and growing ventures.

Operated in partnership with NatWest, KPMG Enterprise, Dell EMC and Pinsent Masons, the awards took place at Entrepreneurial Spark’s Leeds Hatchery.

Guest speakers joined the entrepreneurs to mark their successes over the past six months, sharing invaluable business expertise and highlighting the importance of keeping a strong #GoDo mindset during their entrepreneurial journey.

Entrepreneurs in Leeds came together to celebrate securing new investments, growing and scaling their businesses internationally and creating new jobs. They also had the opportunity to win up to £24,000 to continue driving business growth.

The awards recognise and celebrate the hard work and determination of all Entrepreneurial Spark’s entrepreneurs across the country with the following prizes:

Entrepreneur of the Moment

The main award of the evening, Entrepreneur of the Moment was awarded to an entrepreneur Entrepreneurial Spark believes has built a viable product or service which has the potential to gain international recognition. They have shown sheer determination, dedication and an ability for identifying and capitalising on small opportunities that can return big results.

The winner who secured £7,000 on the night was Lewis Foster, founder of Music Vine, a royalty-free music website for video producers, game developers and film-makers.

 Acceler8 award

The Acceler8 award recognises the businesses that have made significant progress in the last six months by moving out of their comfort zones to make the most of every opportunity.

Moira Fuller, founder of Craftiosity, a design, pattern and illustration studio colourful which produces greetings cards and stationery, walked away with £4,000 for demonstrating a great #GoDo attitude. Hayley Anderson-Richardson, founder of Families in Sync, which offers parent coaching on a one to one or group basis also secured a prize of £4,000.

 #GoDo prize

The #GoDo prize is awarded to the entrepreneurs who take action, seek challenges and make every day count, delivering impressive results using a #GoDo mindset.

Two lucky entrepreneurs fended off strong competition to be awarded the prize, and £3,000 each: Murdo Macleod, founder of Zest Mixology, which provides quality cocktails that can be served in nearly any location by professional cocktail mixologists and Jyoti Matoo, founder of Voir Fasion.

 Chiclet’s Choice award

The Chiclet’s Choice award, nominated by fellow entrepreneurs, recognises the Chiclet who demonstrates the greatest degree of return and support within their Hatchery.

Ellie MacDonald, founder of MacComms, a public relations, marketing and communications consultancy was selected by her fellow entrepreneurs to receive the £1,000 prize for unreservedly sharing her expertise of the public relations industry within the Hatchery.

Pitching competition

On the night eight entrepreneurs also took to the stage to battle it out at the Entrepreneuring Awards pitching competition. Two start-ups delivered a 60 second pitch to try and win £1,000 for their business.
