New team member to enhance engagement efforts at RFCA
The Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Yorkshire and The Humber has announced the appointment of former IT Project Manager and RAF Officer, Phil Walton to the post of Assistant Regional Employer Engagement Director.
Phil’s role will see him work alongside Regional Employer Engagement Director Richard Lenton from the Association’s base in York, to provide advice to businesses who employ current and former Military personnel or their families, and to assist organisations who wish to support the Armed Forces community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant and embarking on the Government’s Employer Recognition Scheme.
Prior to his appointment Phil, who lives in York, was an IT Project Manager and spent 29 years with the RAF after joining in 1986 as a Military Policeman. He left the RAF in 2016, his final posting being as Officer Commanding Personnel Squadron in the Falkland Islands. During his time in the Military Phil was awarded the Provost Marshal Commendation for Bravery and the Firmin Sword of Peace for the UK Joint Support Unit in Brunssum, Netherlands in 2012.
“I always wanted see the world, luckily enough the RAF fulfilled that wish in abundance,” said Phil. “I left the RAF in 2016 to join an IT firm as a Project Manager, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but working with like-minded people and having the opportunity to give back some support to the military after a fantastic career in the RAF is what drew me to the role with the RFCA.
“It’s vital that we retain the strong support for the Armed Forces that we currently enjoy in Yorkshire. With military operations on a much quieter level than they have been for the last 15 years we need to maintain that presence, especially as more reservists than ever are being mobilised for duty.
“I can see that through engagement with local businesses we will look to retain those already strong links and get as many companies as possible to reiterate their support for the Armed Forces by signing the Armed Forces Covenant and progress through the Employer Recognition Scheme.”
The RFCA’s Head of Engagement Zena Wynn-Jones is delighted to welcome Phil to the team.
