Richard Vaughan retires

After 31 years, Thorite’s Marketing Manager, Richard Vaughan has recently retired.

Richard joined Thorite in 1988 as Sales Administrator at the Huddersfield branch and a steady series of promotions led to him becoming Branch Manager, a position that he held until 1995 when he moved to the Leeds branch as Product Development Executive.

In 1999 Richard was promoted to Marketing & Workshop Products Manager, based at the Thorite head office in Bradford, involving day-to-day management of the marketing department along with introducing several initiatives, including brand and website development.

The Thorite Academy had been in existence for some while, offering basic industrial training courses. In 2013, Thorite extended the course range and Richard was appointed Marketing & Training Manager and set about organising training schedules and course materials.

As someone who has always makes the most of each day, Richard’s retirement shows every sign of being just as busy as his time at Thorite. A passionate motorsports enthusiast, Richard has participated in hill-climbs, with a car that he maintains himself for many years. The fact that the car, an OMS, is still competitive is due to Richard’s mechanical ingenuity – he even designed and built his steering wheel mounted ‘paddle’ gear shift. Richard also plays and collects guitars.

“My time at Thorite has flown and I’ve had a great time.” He said “There has been a Vaughan at Thorite for a lot longer than my 31 years as my mother was the secretary to the previous Managing Director and my eldest son now works in Thorite’s Systems Division as a design engineer. We are not the only family at Thorite and it says a lot about the company ethos.”
