  • Seeking a grand wedding for Valentine’s Day

York’s most opulent wedding venue is giving a special gift to one loved-up couple – the chance to tie the knot on Valentine’s Day.

The Grand, York, the city’s only five-star hotel, has just a handful of available wedding dates between now and spring 2020 and one of them is 14 February.

This means not only can one lucky bride and groom exchange their vows in York’s most prestigious venue, on the most romantic day of the year, but they can also take advantage of the hotel’s late availability package.

For less than £5,500, couples will be able to say “I do” in the hotel’s oak-panelled Boardroom, which is lit by vast chandeliers has spectacular views over the ancient city walls.

They and their guests will then be given a sparkling drinks reception, followed by a three-course wedding breakfast created by the hotel’s renowned team of chefs, with wine.

Place cards, menus, a table plan and the services of a wedding coordinator are all included in the cost, along with table linen, chair covers and a menu tasting prior to the big day.

The happy couple will then be able to round off the day with a complimentary overnight stay in an executive bedroom, with breakfast the following morning.

“Because this is such a lovely, historic building, a wedding here is always incredibly special,” said events manager Lauren Wilson, “which is why we have only a handful of dates left over the next few months.

“I’m amazed, though, that Valentine’s Day – the most romantic day of the year – is one of them but, as this package represents a 20 per cent discount, I think it will now be snapped up very quickly.”

The late availability package is subject to a minimum of 60 guests and other available dates are Saturday 9 November and Sunday 22 December 2019 and Saturday 18 January, 1 February, 7 March and 4 and 18 April 2020.
