  • Yorkshire manufacturer flies high with national award nomination

Yorkshire based chemical manufacturer Airedale Chemical has been recognised for its excellence amongst national peers in the 2019 Chemical Industry Awards (CIAs).

The independent family-run business, which manufactures and distributes specialist chemicals, has been shortlisted for its work with the local community, establishing long-term partnerships and commitment to inciting an interest in STEM subjects in young children.

The awards recognise companies or individuals for outstanding work in a selection of categories to highlight and promote excellence in the chemical industry.

Airedale Chemical is shortlisted within the ‘reputation’ category for its work in building and enhancing its own reputation as well as that of the industry. This follows the company’s ongoing partnership with Sutton-in-Craven Community Primary School under its charitable arm, the Airedale Foundation.

As part of the relationship, students are invited to the Cross Hills manufacturing site each year and introduced to the journey of a chemical from order to dispatch, experience a tour of the site and visit the company’s fleet of lorries which includes a sit in the driver’s cab. The Year 4 pupils are also given the opportunity to take part in curriculum-themed science experiments in the manufacturer’s technical laboratory.

Daniel Marr, commercial director at Airedale Chemical, said: “Developing relationships is one of our core values as a company so we’re incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with Sutton-in-Craven Community Primary School. Our team loves planning the day and creating science experiments in line with the students’ curriculum. It’s a brilliant opportunity to reach young pupils and encourage an interest in STEM subjects – one of our post-visit surveys found that 97% of the students were more interested in science as a result of the day.

“To be recognised for our continued work with the local school and surrounding community by the Chemical Industry Awards is very rewarding for the entire team, we’re delighted to be shortlisted and are looking forward to the ceremony!”

The awards ceremony will take place at St Georges Hall, Liverpool on 13th June.
